Graduated? What Now.

After graduating from university a year ago, looking back now I was one stressed out girl full of panic and actual fear. Waiting for that job to line up so you can finally tell every adult in your life you officially have your own cubicle, walking around nervous for people you hardly even know to ask you your plans and feeling ashamed if you didn’t have any. For a time in our life that’s supposed to feel liberating and exciting, it was pretty much the exact opposite. I’m here to tell everyone who’s in this position right now exactly what I wish someone told me. Here we goooo.

The Job Will Come

For the love of God the job will come. You will not end up homeless, you will not end up broke on the side of the street. This is pretty much where my headspace was at the time. I literally believed that I would be jobless forever, if anything I wish I had more time between graduating and starting a new job. I spent my entire fourth year in a panic that I didn’t have a job in January that I found it hard to enjoy myself going out and spending time doing anything else that basically wasn’t setting up my future. Don’t be like that, you most likely won’t see any of these people again after graduation spend time with them, the job will come.

Travel

This was definitely something I wish I listened to. The job will always be there, but being young and fearless enough to go travel will fade. The older we get the more obligations we have, we start to develop more fears and come up with more excuses as to why its a bad idea. Just do it.

Nobody Knows What They’re Doing

I know how daunting it can be when it seems like you’re the only person in your grad class without a solid plan but when you come to the realization that literally no one knows what they’re doing it puts you at an extreme peace of mind. Trust me, 1, 2, even 5 years after we graduate nobody knows what the hell they want to do, but honestly life would be pretty boring if we had our whole future mapped out in front of us. I once read that life is like flying a plane, you have to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride in first class – not panic in the drivers seat because news flash we have no idea how to fly a plane? (And if you do, you get the point)

Make Health a Priority

After 4 years of straight up poisoning your body 3 nights a week, it may be time to take a little step back and start nurturing that temple. I mean it does everything for us (like keep us alive), the least we could do is start watching what we put into it at least 5 days a week, right?

Do You Really Want to Be a Doctor?

Or do your parents want you to?….js.

Stop. Stressing. Out

I actually do believe a little bit of stress is a good thing, you know it keeps us on our toes, helps us handle our money/makes sure we don’t end up as a hippy that lives at burning man year round. But too much stress is def not a good thing, like it actually causes illness, look it up. Everyone in life wants to be successful in their own type of way, but if how you get there is consistently, well, horrible then it’s time to reevaluate how you’re doing it. Stop using that I’ll be happy when phrase, it leads to nothing but a dissatisfaction and shitty gut health. Literally.

At the end of the day, it’s your life act how you want, do what you want no one is stopping you just stop acting like we live forever. Because we don’t, duh. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
