I wanted to share with you guys something that I’ve been practicing lately. I listened to this crazy podcast by Ed Mylett the other day and it was with Shaun White. Do you remember him? I completely forgot he existed (no offence Shaun) You know, the world class snow boarder? yeah well he’s in a band now. That’s beside the point, but I think we can all agree that he is/was the best in the world at what he does (did?). Like, we ALL know who Shaun White is even if we’re not into snow boarding which you have to admit is pretty cool and means he must be doing something right.
ANYWAY he mentioned something that really stuck with me this past week. I can’t stop thinking about it. When Ed asked him what he does when he has negative thoughts he simply said “why would I even waste my time thinking badly about myself, it literally doesn’t benefit me at all. It doesn’t even make sense for me to think that way” (this wasn’t word for word but basically) and I was like MIND BLOWN. Like, DUH it has no benefits???? It genuinely makes everything worse, but WHY do we do it so much? We spend more time saying negative things about your lives than we do positive and it’s so sad. I couldn’t get over how simple this mindset was, yet soooo hard to achieve. I started thinking about all the time I’ve wasted being negative in my life, not starting things sooner because of what other people will say, being scared to post a stupid video online because I don’t want people making fun of me. It just stuns me how much energy I’ve put into putting myself down (I’m more so talking about highschool/university not as much now) when I could have spent all that time saying nice things to myself.
There’s a reason this guy is world class. That mindset is beyond hard to achieve and if it was easy we would all be world class which would be hilarious lol. I want you to just try and keep that with you – whatever you get up to this week, or whenever you catch yourself saying something bad about yourself just think “this literally does not benefit me at all? Why tf am I doing it?” and just bring yourself back down to earth. You are exactly where you’re supposed to be, the universe doesn’t make mistakes people I mean look at everything it does it clearly knows what it’s doing. Stop wishing your whole life was different because that my friend, is negative energy which means you’re just attracting MORE of it. Instead, start being grateful for what you do have. Those gratitude lists on instagram aren’t just for show. Actually DO IT.
